Moorings
The Capernwray Arm, as it is known, is a popular mooring spot for boaters on the Lancaster Canal. Known locally as Lovers' Creek. This short arm of the canal leading into Wegber Quarry, which was then a limestone quarry where limestone was transhipped from narrow gauge railway trucks into barges for delivery to various points along the canal.
As a former boat owner on the canal (this was how we discovered the site) can I ask that you respect the boaters privacy as you would your fellow residents and pass by as quietly as you can, especially early in the morning.
It's also a good fishing spot on the junction where the water is a little deeper (but still quite shallow) or you can try tempt fish out from under the shade of the boats on a sunny day.
At dusk, this is a great spot to come and watch the bats as they skim along the canal feeding on the millions of midges that swarm over the canal.
